There are 2 sensors.
1st 'primary' at the start of the CAT and 2nd 'secondary' at the end of the CAT.

In 'simple terms' the primary controls fuelling through feedback in real time if the AFR (air fuel ratio) is rich or lean and adjusts - so the mugen ECU definitely needs this or the car would run like a bag of crap.

The secondary in simple terms just checks if the CAT is working/is still there.

Lastly look up 'walker' o2 sensors by me and 'grittyshaker'

I dont know which one you need, but i think the secondary is female.
yeh its the sensor that directly plugs into the cat. that im having trouble with. just find it strange that ive ordered 2 of these and they have both ended up with male ends?

I have a Walker one for sale, as I never got round to fitting it before the car was written off. Somebody showed interest in it a few weeks ago, and I've been waiting for a payment since then.

If you want it it's £50 delivered (cost me about £70), but I'll need to email the other guy before we do anything, as I did specify that there was no rush for him to get his payment sorted.

EDIT: PM me if interested, as I'm not lurking as much as I used to.

If its the one in the decat then its the secondary one, which grittyshaker has for sale.

Bargain if you ask me as they are about £65-70 delivered.
