yesterday i drove past a police car on motorway that had pulled someone over (not sure what for), a few miles down the road i noticed he was behind me, (i was overtaking in the middle lane) and doing 78 when i imeadiately looked down at speedo, after seeing him, i didnt slow down because he was quite close and i didnt see any point, so after overtaking i pulled in again and he went on past (doing 80-85ish), happy i guess.
i know it was only 78 but i guess he could have pulled me over if he wanted to.
a few more miles up the road he had slowed right up tailing some traffic in slow lane (maybe 70 or less), i carried on past him at 76ish, no probs, so i guess they do have an elimant of common sense.

Quick question - does anybody know with regards to the average speed check cameras, do you have to go past at least 2 to be caught or can they catch you on just one?
They have put loads of them up on the A27 and M27 but I only have to go past one of them before I turn off and on the way home from work at 2 in the morning i sometimes forget that i should be doing 40mph - could I get caught?

If you'd been doing 94 there's a pretty good chance he'd have pulled you over for a chat, at the very least I'd have thought...

Ch33sey - that's about the closest match so far to the camera's appearance. When I caught sight of it there was no operator peering through it, but I suppose that with a range of 1000m he'd already done the dirty.
I was checking the police guidelines today on operating mobile cameras, prompted by the fact that the car was un-marked, the operators wore no identifying clothing, and there was no warning sign.
The guidelines state that the police should ensure that all these things are attended to, even going as far as stipulating that the markings on the vehicle should not be of the detachable magnetic type. Then, in bold, it states that any failure by the police to follow the guidelines does not constitute any defence if you're nicked. They are recommendations only! Jesus Christ!
