Default Oil Burn - Does it ever stop?

The old chesnut rears head again.

Just checked my oil and I needed to add 600mls. my car has now done almost 17K. I know oil burn is common during runin but is their a point at which it should stop? My cars gets its daily dose of VTECing but I wouldnt say excessivley, maybe 10 times a day max, most of the time its cruising along the motorways between 80-90.

2nd service is coming up, do you think it may begin to stop after then?

I think this is always going to be one problem with this car that never goes away!!

To be quite honest, I think due to the high performance element of the engine you've got to accept that it is going to use oil. 240 bhp is a lot to get out of a 2.0l engine so has its disadvantages.

Funny thing about it though , when I owned my 91 CRX VTEC, it never used I bean of oil between services (6000 miles) and that revved to 8k.

I have 11k on mine now and am still having to top up. I think the usage depends on the type of oil used (mineral, semi or fully synthetic). Synthetic doesn't break down as fast, giving you a slower usage.

I'd be tempted to go back to the cheap stuff again. I would suspect the rings have still not bedded and Mobil1 is too good an oil to let them bed any further. IMO

Now at 18,000 miles mine has eased right up with little to no burnt oil, however I have had four oil changes in this time, topped up with mineral to 4000 and then Mobil 1 @ 4050miles & after that every ~4000 miles or six months, I guess my engine is the equivalent to Tifosi Red's car bodywork (well looked after ).

See if I get any extra with my Mobil1 track-record

I have a whole can of 10W 40, Honda branded, (given to me by the dealer with my Civic Type R).

Is this suitable to use in the S.

Also, can you add synthetic to nonsynthetic without problems.
Sorry to be so dim.

I've just topped 16,000 miles and had to put another 400ml in - used around a litre since the 9,000 mile service...

Matt.
