oil levels and checking.

It wouldn't do that if you clean it before you measure it...

In my experience, it takes about 3 dip/wipe cycles before you dip/check to get an accurate result.

Agreed, because of the way the oil drains back into the sump, it is possible to pick some up on the dipstick as you remove it, giving a false reading on one side. As far as checking the dipstick without wiping first, now that would be silly wouldn't it
