Oils changed for megameet.
Had the car serviced recently and with next weekend in mind nipped into work this morning to change the gearbox/diff oils, maybe a placebo effect but the shift now feels better through the gearbox, hot or cold, the change was probably overdue but for the cost and half an hour on a ramp it was worth the effort.

No need to post twice
I did my diff and gearbox the latter having no paper record on Honda's invoices, noticed nowt but I understand these boxes run warm and I know the diff can cook it's oil
So good idea

When I first got my s2k, first gear was soo difficult to engage.
Got the gearbox oil replaced with good old MTF3. What an amazing difference it made.
First gear is soo smooth even when cold.
Dont think any of my previous owners touched the gearbox oil at all.
How often should the gearbox oil be changed?

Every 8 years so 2009 and 2017 for mine. Not done either time. Easy money for a dealer too.

Just for information the North American gearbox maintenance schedule for pre-2006 cars is 120,000 or 6 years whichever comes first. 2006+ cars with the Maintenance Minder will specify the interval on the instrument display. I'm putting just about 5000 miles on my 2006 car annually and do an annual engine oil change with differential and gearbox changes every other time. The differential is the critical one with a biennial requirement.
Notes abound here regarding smoothing out of the gearbox simply by changing the oil there. And brand names touted as best abound as well. Royal Purple SynchroMax is in mine this year.

I'm about to be replacing diff and trans oil after only about 6000 miles, because given the minimal cost and minimal time, why not be crazy paranoid about the automotive love of your life
