Once again Thanks guys, this forum is a real gold mine of help, wish I'd looked for Forums earlier.

On the age/experience thing, now I think your all seeing why I HAVE to wait 2.9 years, I have no choice (ish, admittedly don't have to buy an S2000, but what other car is good enough i've done boring/mundane, if I don't set my sights now, I'll have a family and kids before I know it, and lose the "dream" altogether ). I would either write it off, or kill myself. So, 2.9 years it has to be.

And no offense, but I would not be seen DEAD in an MX5 (probably prefer to be seen dead/alive/unconscious in a Robin Reliant first). My uncle had one...one word "nasty"

(I also saw that as a comment, not a dig, as I agree wholeheartedly with it)

And I would prefer to insure ME, as if I insure myself as a named driver, I get no NCB, so whats the point (apart from money saving). I see your point about Adding parent/safe other driver on as a named driver on MY insurance (if thats what you meant) could work

Hope all that made sense

Cheers,

Matt

Depends if you keep the insurance in the named driver route. Then you keep the NCB for that.

If you could keep using that method till you were 25 then you will find insuring a car with 0ncb shouldn't be as much as a heatache. Reckon you'd save more overall + making it easier to afford atm.

Yeah, I once thought a 127 Sport seemed like a good idea!

MX-5: Don't knock that car. Given it's a decade older design, it's in effect a previous-generation S2000. If it hadn't been such a success, it's less likely the S2000 would have gone ahead.

Reliant Robin: I know it's pedantic, but to say "Civic Honda" sounds a bit stupid and "Astra Opel" sound like a porn star. Anyway, there was a nice little roadster called the Cipher based on the four wheeled Kitten Chassis, so be careful what you wish for!

MX5s are fantastic cars. They have won the best handling car award (can't remember which publications), which included some seriously skilled motorsport professionals as judges and covered all maner of exotic cars.
Serious fun, seriously affordable and also hold their value well. The perfect stepping stone to the S.

Ok, seem to have hit a nerve with the MX5 comment.

Which, I have to say, this was my opinion after having been a "passenger" in one (quite old if remember right), also when I say "nasty" it was referring to the fact I don't really like them, nothing to do with the car itself (although, I wouldn't say no to the 2001 models).

Just thought I should clear that up.

Also, one of my closest friends has wanted one for ages, and I have helped him look for quite some time, let me tell you, there are some REALLY ropey ones out there

Thankyou for the input though
