I initially used Sainsburys SUL and after a month or 2 the car ended up in the garage with violent kangarooing and the CEL on.

Dealer flushed the system, and said this was common for HOndas using Sainsbury's fuel - they told me never to use it again.

I was under the impression the "supermarket" fuels have the same RON levels as the Petrochemical guys but do not have a lot of the detergents and other additives.
Might explain the Honda/Sainsbury comment.
I run my S on either Optimax or Ultima because an engine like this deserves some TLC! Only once have I used SUL out of a desperate need to keep going

I'll add my 2p. In my last car I always used Opti but this time around I have stuck with Esso SUL. To-date I haven't noticed any difference.

I always use Opti if I can cos I like Red and yellow - it makes me feel warm, and i get shell plus points

On the rare occasion i have to put an alternative in I put Ultimate, or another SUL in. But i don't bother about the cost, cos I dont pay for it.

Now, isnt there something about MON too? I think BM wrote a lot about this in the past, might be worth searching for those inquisitive types for what Turtle might have posted on fuels before

Just going a bit off topic, has anyone been to Europe and tried that shell V Power, isn't it 100 RON? any notable difference using that?
There were similar tests (by the AA ?) conducted in germany using Shell V Power 100 RON ULP

Translated German report on V Power 100

I'm not surprised as I have heard that supermarket fuel doesn't have the detergent additives you get in branded fuels - sometimes, you get what you pay for!
