Just ordered one of these, and i was wondering if somebody could post some pictures of your installl in your S i.e where you have put the base unit etc.
Radar/Laser Sensor behind and below the front number plate mounted on the OEM grill (I made a custom bracket out of some galvanised steel plate and attached this with using a bolt through the bracket hole in the centre of the grill, and with a cable tie onto the grill also. Withstands high speeds on the autobahns but make sure you cable tie the wires down and don't tape them - high speed wind unwraps the tape!)
GPS aerial above the secret compartment (keeps the top of the dash nice and clean)
Head unit fitted just to the left of the radio door. This still allows the radio door to open and (just!) misses passengers knees (again, keeps the top of the dash clean). I modified one of the windscreen brackets that came with the kit and stuck it to the bottom of the dash with heavy duty 3M double sided tape.
I ran the all the wiring under the centre tunnel carpet (where this has trim clips holding it onto the underside of the tunnel - dead easy to access). Power and earth are piggy backed off the back of the 12v power socket with a piggy back spade connector. The wire from the radar/laser unit I ran up though/alongside the air conditoning drain tube (dead easy to do again and the drain tube forms a seal around the wire).
i've got one of those (sr4) the laser bit is under the number plate, and the noisy bit is in the middle if the dash. a piece of wee th wire up. straight into the fuse box with ign. feed.

Thanks Chaps, that's just what i was after. I hadn't even considered putting the radar/laser sensor down in the front grille. Do you find you have to clean the sensor? And is the sensor forward enough to pick up high mounted lasers e.g on Motorway bridges?
I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to electrics, so does the unit come with good hardwiring instructions, or will i need to get a generous forum member to post an idiots guide for me?
@mikdys :
Do you find the GPS signal cuts out much having the reciever in the back? When the roof is up, i cant imagine there is that much 'height' available compared to having mounted at the front of the dash?
Hardwiring it into the Ciggy lighter was one of my options, but i presumed it would be a permanent live, so i discounted this because it would drain the battery?

Three questions, so three answers:
1. There is a clear to understand manual with the kit. However, the wiring is very simple. The inputs for the head unit all have different fittings so you can't get these wrong. That just leaves the power supply and earth and basically you just need to match the wire colours on the back of the 12v socket unit. I used "piggy back" spade connectors here and soldered them onto the units power harness. You could alternatively use "crimp type" spade connectors or even "scotch locks" (which are so easy to use - you just fit them on the two wires to be joined and close them with a pair of pliers). All available from a good autofactors (probably Hellfords as well). It really is easy to wire up - if you can wire a three pin plug you are over-qualified for this job!
2. The GPS signal is fine with the aerial fitted as in my picture. It works well roof down, soft top up or even with the hard top on (note which way round it is orientated though - it doesn't seem to mention this in the manual).
3. The 12v power supply (I don't think it has a ciggy lighter in it as standard) is only live with the key in and the swicth to "accessory" or "ignition on". When you tunr the key to "off" the power to this supply turns off too. Its the perfect place to get a "hook up" if you are going to position the units where I did. The carpet on the centre tunnel is folded around under a sort of "top lip". You just have to pull out some trim clips under here (take a look and you'll see what I mean) and you have a ready made wiring run.
EDIT:
PS - the radar/laser sensor works just fine in the front grill too (if anything it works too well - you'll see what I mean when you get yours working!).
