Rahul

I think the point about image/reputation is that it WILL affect you, regardless of you or your attitude to it.

If you buy a 360, it WILL attract crowds, sticky fingers and gawps. It's inevitable. Your Porsche or BMW will be keyed if you park in a way deemed selfish by the local scum.

Other drivers tend to be more antagonistic towards perceived 'flash cars' and especially 'flash cars driven by twats' - for which you can read BMWs and Porsches. An extended test drive ought to prove this.

There is a funny cutoff where you get that awful word 'respect'. M5s tend to get it, Diablos do, etc, but that's just my opinion.

BTW if you put serious miles on a 360, it too will suffer from depreciation. Maybe not Maserati like, but still serious. Not the same with Porsches. Rightly or wrongly, they have an enviable reputation for toughness. Esp the 911.

Finally, how about an RS6?

I've got to say I agree on this one....I got sick of the grief that the M3 attracted....it's one of the reasons why the S2000 appealed....it seems to attract no jealousy whatsover....never get funny looks....rarely any aggro at most just inquisitiveness....the total opposite to the M3 which seemed to attract all kinds of scum and general grief...at first I couldn't care but eventually it became very tiresome....has been the same in friends Porsches (but not the 928 funnily enough) but the 944/968 and especially the 993 got exactly the same grief...I suspect the Boxster may attract the same said knobends

The Ferrari was more a question of having to know EXACTLY where you were going to park it.....and accepting that when you returned it might not be that easy to reach the car for people looking at it!....It never got any bad reaction at all but it's an 'Athena Poster Car' and the question of who 'owns it' seems to become irrelevant....I am not sure a 360 would have the same effect

I'd certainly bear people perception of the car and in turn yourself before making a decision

I wanted to thank everyone who participated in this thread. I can confirm to you all that the Boxster S is my final choice. It is a great car to drive and very different to the S. I still respect the S for what it is and the fun I had in it. I do not feel as though I am upgrading but rather just buying another roadster. I will come along for the S meets if I am allowed by you guys.

Please do not abuse me for making this decision. We all still will remain friends. I will lurk around on the board for now just in case I change my mind and get an S in the time I wait for the porker which I am told will arrive in June/July.

The board has been great, full of information, friendly people, mad people, funny people and with great knowledgeable posts and sometimes inspirational even. A BIG Thank you to ALL!!!

Thanks Suabru for the very decent words.

S2000Silver: thanks for your comments too. I agree about the S it is everything you described and would love to buy another S in the future but for now the porker has won. Only for a change and no other reason and it is as good as the S. Not better, not worse but the same in a different kind of way. But thanks again for trying to keep me to the S!

Not the one I'd have gone for, Rahul - but that's just a personal choice thing. There's no question that the Boxster S is a VERY accomplished car and, to most people, is probably the benchmark which any roadster is measured against.

I'm sure I speak for everyone here when I say once an s2ki-er, always an s2ki-er - you've owned the car so you'll always have that in common with the people who post here.

Let us know how you get on with the Porker. We've had Boxsters along at meets before so no reason why you should be any different - bring it along to show it off! (Just be prepared for a plethora of curling tongs/hair gel/ something for the weekend, sir? gags )

Oh, and when you defect to boxa.net, make sure you don't turn to the dark side. You're duty bound to uphold the honour of the S2000 in the face of those badge snobs' mockery!

well I think you've made a good choice....the Boxster S is the only car I'd swap the S2000 for....at the end of the day everyone fancies a change from time to time....you'll still have a roadster....it's well regarded as a drivers car for those who want to actually 'drive' it and will hold it's money well

all you need to do now is register at boxa.net - they are a knowledgable bunch and will provide you with the kind of information on the Boxster that you've got on the S2000 from s2ki
