Default primary o2 sensor

ok guys i had CEL and been to honda this morning to get it double checked and they confirmed that my primary air fuel sensor was knackered i sure thats the technical term and that i need a new one. then they decided to tell me that want screw me with a repair bill of 272.99 on top of the 50 odd pound code read. so heres the question if i can get a cheap 2nd hand sensor in good condition would it be worth going for or will i just be doing this again in the close future. how hard is it to do, ive not done anything like this before but im quite practical and have done other things on my car with positive results. does it require special tools to remove the sensor ? and will the car sort its self out after install or will i need to wipe or reset the ecu some hows.

many thanks

Ryan

Get a lambda socket from somewhere like amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-Exper...9459877&sr=8-1), crawl under the car, you will see two sensors, one actually in the catalytic converter and one in the exhaust manifold. Your primary is the one in the manifold. Remove this with the socket, put in new genuine part and jobs a goodun.

Probably cost less than £100.

It is a very simple job!

The OEM sensor is £208! http://www.lingshond...&block_03=19250

You can get a Walker sensor from here for £65 or so http://www.ecolambda...in/hondantk.htm

Worst case, get one of those and Honda to fit it, it'll be £130 ish.

There is a guide which may help at https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/464...5#entry9973280 by an owne3r although it covers the more complicated approach of rewiring a new sensor on to the existing cables. The space for the use of O2 socket may be too tight for the primary sensor but it is perfect for the secondary sensor. The workshop manuals shows using an open end spanner but a flare nut spanner is the approach that I have taken as it can slip over the wiring whilst giving better purchase than an open end spanner. Can't set the torque for tightening however compared to a socket on a torque wrench.

No special tool needed, a large adjustable spanner (or the correct size...22mm????) and a hammer are all you need.

But for less than a tenner delivered...why not just use the right tool rather than the tool of Satan himself, an adjustable! lol!
