Smile Problems at cold start !

Title says it all really !

When i start the engine from cold it doesnt idle at 2000rpm anymore, causing many problems as u can imagine. It is idling pretty rough at 1000rpm, very easy to stall when pulling away with the engine running like this.

Has anyone had this problem ?

Any advice?

Tried a hopeful ecu reset, didnt cure it.

almost 54k miles now, due a service in 300miles.

tried checking for error codes?

sounds like a temp sensor issue.

Any mods recently and are you standard?

Check out the idle control valve , make sure its connected correctly
maybe give it a clean.

maybe....

1) start the car when cold, and let it try and idle... if it dies, remove the keys and let it settle for a while.

2) repeat step 1 untill the car does idle and stays idling.

3) turn the car off and try once more, the car should idle fine and you should not have a problem.

the cars ECU will 'learn' that it is getting colder and will adjust the timing.
DO NOT touch the throttle at any time during the process because the ECU will not learn propperly.

Problem should be solved and if not, its your map sensor... give it a 'whack'.

If it was ok at cold but not once warm I would suggest throttle cable or lambda failure.

Could be an air leak. Check all your vac hoses are connected under the bonnet. Check plugs too.

Could your air pump not playing ball also.

Has this just happened? Have you just had a service?
