Default Problems, Problems.....car broken :(

Hi All,

Just dropped my car off at Marshalls in Reading for some warranty work to be done....

Predominately a new gear box.... The original was fine unless you wanted to get it in or out of 6th at which point you found it was really stiff, and didn't want to go in. (oh er!)

Glad is't being done under warrenty as the cost of a new box is about 2200GBP!

The second problem they are looking at is a stutter in the engine over 6000 rpm. It's as if the engine keeps dropping out of V-tec mode in the higher rev range..at it's most extreme you can keep the throttle constant and the rev's at 8000, and then it will just flutter between 8000 and 7000 rpm...not a nice experiance if you're commited to a corner at the time...

So we shall see what they come up with.

BTW oil level is fine, just had a new air filter, and airbox cover is now on. Only use optimax fuel.

Cheers

M.

Hi Mark - what made you put the airbox cover back on ? Was it just for the wqork to be done ?

Well the air filter was fairly manky, so I thought if it was clogged enough to inhibit airflow in to the engine that might be a reason for the v-tec problem, (V-tec also takes air flow/pressure in to consideration). I got a new filter, and put the cover back on but no change. The car does however feel quicker with the cover back on, so I might stick with it.

You go around corners at 7-8k rpm ?

The stuttering could well be a MAP sensor problem. If the MAP's playing up, it'll be giving the ECU varying readings on how much air is getting in, so the ECU would try to compensate. One way of getting symptoms like you describe.
