Quick question on the ECU re-set
Hi all, I want to re-set the ECU, so consulted the FAQ for details. Managed to find it quickly enough and read it through.
The question I have is with regards to the post fuse replacement proceedure. It says to "give it red-line through the gears".
1. Does this mean ALL six gears ?!
2. Is this just one cycle through the gears, or more ?
3. Other car ECU re-sets require a "spirited drive" for a minimum period of time, is this the case with the S ?
Any help would be greatfully received.

The link is my workings which is now in the FAQ
No, not through all 6 gears - just a few of them will do. It's just to get the ignition timing and fuelling set up. It's not essential but its how I like to do it

The FAQ is where I saw it - many thanks for posting the info in the first instance !
So there is no time period that this has to be done for ? Re-sets in the past on other cars I have owned, required the "red-line" driving for a minimum period of time, for example 15 minutes.

The ECU will learn your driving style thats why its better to give it some beans in case thats how you will drive! it dosent mean red line in every gear, its just a guide to set it up fella..
Redline for 15 mins?? That would be bad!
You must mean the battery disconnected for 15 mins?
I have rarely seen anyone anywhere advise giving the car stick after a reset, its just something I decided was a good practice. It does involve ensuring the car is warm beforehand though.
If you don't do it, its fine and it will happily learn by itself.
Should notice it being more spritely straight away though.
To answer your question, there is no real time limit for giving it beans. I just normally take it through a few of the gears a handful of times, or take it for a good thrashing

It's merely to get the fuelling and ignition timing back on track, as it goes to a factory default once reset.
