Default Quietcoat application progress

I'm "just" whipping out the carpets tonight which has so far involved a bump start from a mate (I guess I've been listening to the stereo without the engine running for too long this week) and a trip to Halfords to replace a mislaid socket wrench. I've finally pretty much released the passenger carpet but I'm not sure how you release the white plug in the footwell, right at the end of the carpet. I can't feel any grooves behind it so I don't think its friction fit, but equally it doesn't seem to have a centre bit which can be pushed in to release it, like some of the fastenings in the car.

Any ideas? The manual doesn't have any details....

OK, managed to unscrew the white plug, the only thing left to do is to removed the pedal rest plate thingy - the manual seems to identify two nuts but also refers to 6 x 1mm?? Will keep on fiddling to see if I can find screw heads etc

EDIT: simple pull off job Now to start to apply the quietcoat....

Much thinner than dynamat and correspondingly lighter. It a liquid polymer rather than bitumen-based product.

www.quietcoat.com

Its like very thick paint and is water based. I've applied three coats to the underside of the roof tray, before also adding some dynamat as well (I think this is the root of the resonance in the cabin problem and so I'm happy to apply another pound or so of dynamat as a belt and braces approach).

I going to apply three coats to the cabin, under the carpet. Hopefully it will dry quickly enough even in this wet weather for me to be able to apply a coat early in the morning and one at night. On that basis I should be able to put the carpet back in on Thursday night, Friday night at the latest, in time for PinkFest II

I could have done with this 6 months ago.

How long has the job taken you start to finish?

I take it you remove seats and carpet-paint-wait for paint to dry-reapply carpet & seats

So is it a day job? EDIT looks like the paint takes a day to dry for each coat

Pity you can't put it on the underside of the soft top

I'd love to do this but am crap with car stuff. Wouldn't mind doing it at the same time as someone else though

The US guys received black quietcoat whereas there is reference in the most useful thread to a grey quietcoat being released, which is what I appear to have received.

I bought one US gallon ($90 including shipping via Fed Ex but excluding taxes, request cheapest shipping method in the additional comments section of the online ordering process) and so far I have done three coats on the underside of the roof tray and a single thick coat this morning on the cabin floor. I'll need to check but from the weight of the container I suspect that I have at least 50% left. The thread above contains some helpful hints about how much you need if you are doing the boot etc. Basically I'd buy two gallons if I were to do the boot and spare tyre area as well as the cabin floor and roof tray. However, I've already got brown bread in those areas.

It probably took 2 hours or so to remove the carpet, although the driver's side this morning, despite being slightly more complicated, took 20 mins probably. I think my main problem last night was being unable to easily remove the press fit fasteners in the darkness - I've got to replace three of four of them as they were damaged during removal.

As you'll see from the linked thread, it can be done in a day if its hot and you use some kind of fan assistance.

Also note that it takes 7-10 days for the coating to dry properly and to do its magic So I'll not be able to report on sound reduction until the end of next week.
