Default Radio Interference

I seem to get a lot of interference when listening to the radio, so whilst trying to diagnose the problem I have found:

1. I get crackling when the A/C is turned on
2. I get more crackling when something is plugged into the fag lighter style power outlet

My HU is wired directly to the battery, and I have checked the connection to the antenna is fine.

Any ideas how to get rid of the interference, as it is bloody annoying

Cheers

EDIT:

System is:
Alpine 7893R HU
Apline MRF 450 Amp (wired directly into Battery too)
Alpine SPX177A Front Speakers

You can get interference suppressors from car audio places or the likes of Maplin. Also, check the earthing of the antenna lead. If it's not plugged in properly, you're going to get more noise.

I've checked the antenna is in the HU properly - where is it earthed?

Cheers

Ah yes, did Budgie senior have an earthing wire in place on the HU? I don't remember one, now I come to think of it (abdicating all responsiblity)... Is it defo just the radio? if so, that eliminates the fact that the RCAs run close to the fag lighter.

Definately JUST the radio - it is fine on disc or changer

Oh and Budgie snr had nothing to do with the HU - that was the previous powered sub in the boot he helped wire up

check its earthed. It may well be, I just can't recall the HU being constrained by a black cable (it may have beena long black cable though)
