Recommendations for a Decent WebCam
For a couple of years I have been using a SmartCam video camera which is attached to the top of the windscreen. I do not use it all the time, only when I am going on interesting runs. So, recently, I have videos saved on my computer of the Ace Café meet, crossing the Clifton Suspension Bridge and running down through the Cheddar Gorge.
The SmartCam was a ‘cheapie’, at £85, but has shown me the possibilities of using one on a permanent basis. What I would like is a recommendation from someone who uses a dashcam regularly which has a decent mounting and has more features than the one I’m using at present.

I've got the 0801 version of this:

Mine's stuck behind the int. mirror so is completely out of (my) sight and is wired to come on when I start the car and turn off when I switch the car off .
Picture quality for this price is excellent.

I bought a 'G1W' dashcam off of ebay from HK. Costs about £30 + £8 for mSD card. Really good 1080p quality with quite a wide FOV (newer ones even wider)

and a small video (speed limits were stuck to!)

worth the money! I only really use it for weekend blasts, and it will be going in my track car
even picked up some shoddy driving by others!

I have got one of these Dennis http://www.techmoan.com/blog/2013/7/...p-micro-c.html .
It is great - fits nicely just below / behind the rear view mirror, and boots up and down with the ignition so it really is a fix and leave result. I fitted it following some advice from you and some of the other guys on here - linked into the 'accessory slot' in the fuse box, with an in line fuse, to an accessory socket cable tied behind the dashboard.
If you are interested in one of these I used http://webbex.ecrater.co.uk/c/1521044/mini-dv-cameras and also purchased the longer USB cable (to run round the header rail and down the door pillar; and a windscreen fixed mount, which has 3m tape, similar to a Go-Pro sticky mount to attach to the windscreen and a ball socket to allow the camera to adjust). One hint if you try this - you can only 'touch' the mount to the windscreen once. If you try to reposition you will wreck the sticky glue tape stuff. I did this but had some replacement luckily, so on the second go I worked out where the mount needed to be, then drew round it with one of those pens you write on CDs with. You can then place the mount with ease once you remove the backing tape and don't spoil the adhesive. The pen then wipes off or is so close to the mount that you can't see it.
Hope that is of use!
