Default rev problem

im having a weird problem, i sometimes come to a stop and its idling about 2000rpm and sometimes its around 500 rpm.

if its at 2000rpm i'll give it a little rev and it'll fall back to 500rpm.

the revs seem to drop really slowly to, unless i rag the crap out of it.

i've cleaned the throttle bodie with carb cleaner, tightend my throttle cable tried to clean the IAC but could get the damn thing off.

its seems that the metal bit the throttle cable attaches to doesnt go back to the fully closed position, and when its stuck at 2000rpm i can physically push it back a tiny bit and it'll lower the revs. its as if its getting slightly stuck.

im wondering if a new spring and metal thingy (sorry dont usually have anything to do with fixing cars) would sort the problem? anyone know part numbers and prices?

Any suggestions to the problem?

pic below to show the "metal thingy" lol

The metal thingy is the throttle butterfly I think?
Mine does the same thing but only on startup. It seems fine after I've driven it for a bit. Haven't really thought about why it does it. I just assumed it did it because the engine was cold.

try wd40 on the butterfly first ans the cable should be locked at one end meaning only the joints will be libricated. otherwise strip the assembly down and copper grease the bolts and the lubricate on reinstallation.

For lubricating throttle linkages, I either use GT85 (has PTFE in it) or a Spray DRY lube. Trouble with wet lubes (WD40 etc) is that because it's wet, dirt and dust stick to it, and accelerate the problem. ( See what I did there ?!)

I clean and lube linkages with every service, but it's personal preferance.
