Too late - people have already started comparing a German supercar with an Irish boyband

Do you think TG could set up a race between a 911 and a boy band ?

Honda can't sell the NSX because buyer won't pay for it, this is a refection of the product, value for money, and an outdate looks.
and just a smidgeon of branding?

It's just a Porsche-worshipper thing.

They've swallowed it like a new religious convert, and wish to smite heathens who differ.

I used the 997 comparison to the NSX because it's valid, but also I admit it's the 'light the blue touch paper and retire' thing.

Someone ends up biting the carpet.

It works every time!

D'oh

Seriously, if you'd driven and lived with the Porsche stuff you'd know, it gets under your skin like the S2000 does, but without the drama. I didn't know what all the fuss was about too, but then I become a truly enlightened soul on a higher religious plane.

Ahem

I don't think that too many people doubt the quality of the Porsche product

But I do think that this is an irrelevance to the majority of people that buy them

Before you say it, this may be true of makes like Ferrari too

I see nothing incongruous in the idea that a lesser selling car like the NSX could be a better car to drive than a huge sales success like the 911

The only real problem I've ever seen the NSX has, is its badge.

I am sure it does it exactly the same way, it's not an easy car to drive well either.

In many ways the NSX is the antithesis of both cars.

It is also a timeless classic, appreciated by those who admire its engineering and sensibilities and can look beyond such fripperies as fashion and brand shibboleths.

Maybe it's because it nearly felled so many false gods at the time of its launch, I have always had a sense of admiration for it.

That's the more interesting bit

It was the first supercar that could be described as easy to drive (the limit may well be different)

Now quite what that started I don't know

But I suspect it did start us on the road to the state we're in, where ANYBODY in a modern supercar will be bloody quick

The development of the 911 is a case in point

I still like cars that feel as if they may bite you (I honestly don't put the S2000 in that bracket)

Which probably says a lot about my age and what I have driven

Anyone under 30 probably wouldn't have a clue what I'm on about

Yeah, true gaffi,

"I see nothing incongruous in the idea that a lesser selling car like the NSX could be a better car to drive than a huge sales success like the 911"

I'm sure the NSX is a great car and a pure driving machine that punches well above it's weight in outright performance and times, but it

what I like about the NSX is the supercar looks which to my mind makes the 911 look terribly bland

having said that I'd go for a 911 for the complete package over an NSX....I am just not enough of a Honda enthusiast to spend 911 money on a Honda and I think my view is probably a widely held one
