Thumbs up Which S2000?

Hi

Would appreciate some advice on the S2000!

I'm looking to buy an S2000 for summer/holiday driving and can budget for either a first generation or second gen with higher mileage (FHSH though) and I just wanted your opinions on whether the changes/enhancements on the second generation Honda were enough to warrant the added expense. I'm not too concerned about the cosmetic changes but not too sure about the changes to the suspension.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Cheers

Have I missed something?

The S2000 has been tweaked almost every year since its introduction.

What changes are you referring to?

I think that 1G is an S800.

There was quite a production gap & the build quality improved massively.

You'd be better of with the cheaper, less precious 2000 version.

the context for all the hard info is that the cars have become progressively 'softer' with more creature comforts

if the car is a pure toy, then you'll probably be very happy with a cheaper <02 car

Are you referring to AP1 versus AP2 (AP2 being 04 onwards)?

Personally, I think the pre-04 is somewhat "rawer". A lot of the 04 facelift changes were made (allegedly) for safety reasons.....i.e. to avoid people reversing into things after losing the rear....

From a looks perspective, I prefer the 04+ (AP2)

04 onwards is not AP2, or at least my car most certainly isn't. If you lift your bonnet and have a look at the brown plate at the front it will say rather clearly AP1.

I thought the AP2 was the version with the 2.2ltr engine and was only available in the US, from 04 onwards.

AP2 is the 2.2l engine the US and Japanese get.

I'm almost certain that the OP is referring to the fact that the biggest revision is 04+ different bumpers, wheels, suspension settings, interior and roof.

The 04 is certainly not slower than a pre 04.
