To be fair, they may have a point. An unmodified recent unbent example might well be worth something in the future since Honda's VTEC was slain by the fuel efficiency police.

Now, where did I leave that gold bullion I was planning on exchanging for tax... Ah, here it is! Next to my spare kidney (insurance)

Mine has been fantastic...

Owned for just over 8 yrs. Car 11 yrs old with 105k

Depreciation (est) - £7k
Insurance - £300
Tax - £200
Servicing usually around £250
28-30mpg
Only big problem - bushes - around £1k.

Apart from that just routine servicing and wear and tear items.

Show me another 240bhp sports car you can run for that kind of money

Apart from fuel economy They are dire on fuel and like to drink some oil too.

Other than that, I think the RX8 will be closest in cost terms although it's a (4 door) coupe and there are probably many other cheap(ish) to run coupes on the market.

Depreciation about £8K in 5 years.
Replacement gearbox and clutch, about £1.5K.
Replacement engine, about £3.5K.

And it needs the steering rack replacing, and all the calipers could do with be refurbed/replaced...

All my bushes were fine though.

RX8? 17mpg - and depreciation which sees low mileage 04 cars worth under £5k now. And about £15 a week on oil too!

Even tyres are cheap if you run the 16" wheels!

Your comment on depreciation got me looking on autotrader. I withdraw my comment then. It seems you can pick up a 04 plate with 50k on the clock for 3-3.5 grand!

That's staggering depreciation but also seems the bargain of the century!

People just don't want a car that does 17-18mpg at this end of the market.

RX8's depreciate like a stone. Mate has an 05 plate same year as mine now on sale at £4795 at a dealer. Low mileage, 2 owners, Mazda and him. 40,000. Brand new it was £24k.

I won't tell you what the trade in figure was as it is hard to see a grown man cry.... but starts with a 3.....
