Well, following Benos lead - I have just ordered a Compaq H3870 Ipaq along with the Navman GPS device & software. Having checked out the web site it looks ideal and the whole lot is considerably cheaper than the other options I was looking at and is of course completely portable, which is a plus.

I had almost settled on a VDO MS4100 which has the LCD display built into the head unit, as I did not want holes cut in the dash board and setting up a seperate screen would have involved various bits of iron-mongery spread about the interior. It would also have involved throwing out my recently acquired CD changer and installing a different one, as the VDO unit was not compatible with it. Now, what to do with the money I am saving - I think I am going to "invest" in an Origin Bluei - are people generally happy with these ? I think a few on this board now have them so would be interested to receive any running reports.

Shabby - I already have glasses and an AA roadmap (but no Nissan Micra - hired one though a while back, and quite liked it as basic transport)
