Default Which Service Next?

Evening all,

So I originally bought my S2000 back in spring of 2012, then sold it late 2013, but bought it back in October last year Car is a 2005 with around 51500 miles on it. Since the car only did around 4k miles in the 3 years between my ownership, I'm not sure what it needs next, but really want to maintain the full service history.

So recent history is:
March 12 - 37k miles - 45k miles /60 month service
March 13 - 41K miles - 63k miles / 84 months service (full service including spark plugs brake & clutch fluid, coolant, diff and valve clearances)
May 14 - 46k miles - 72k miles / 96 months service (engine oil and pollen filter)
May 15 - 48k miles - 112k miles / 108 months service (engine oil)
May 16 - 49k miles - 125k miles / 120 months service (engine oil, antifreeze tested and ok)
May 17 - ????????

Valve clearances haven't been checked in 4 years, but only done 10k miles in that time. Same with brake fluid etc. Is it due?

Brake fluid should be done every 2 years irrespective of mileage. it's Hydroscopic - it attracts and dissolves water - which reduces the efficency of your brakes (and gives a spongy feel). Water in the brake system can over a much longer period of time lead to rust in the inside of the system itself.

So at a minimum do the brake fluid on top of oil / filter..

I thought valve clearance checks are best done at initial 10K and then every 40K after that? so as you did them within the last 10K they should be ok...

Gearbox and diff I've seen recommendations for every 15K and 30K respectively - My gearbox oil will be done this year on that basis - as folks say fluids are cheap - hard parts ain't.

March 13 is March 2013 not March 13 I assume? (Darn hard to read originally.)

You have 5000 miles on this engine oil. You know it needs to be changed. And the filter.

The rest of this information can be found in an obscure document called the Owners Manual. 2005 and earlier cars have it spelled out in detail. RTFM. Don't have it? Download it from Honda.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, oil and brake fluid. Maybe an opportunity to fit braided lines

Then next year go for a full service, gearbox, diff etc.

Assume you're reading on a mobile device if not clear... Not sure I follow what you're getting at regarding dates.

Regarding oil changes, it's never gone 5k between oil changes, 2k max in the last 4 years. Either way, I'm aware it's an annual change.

chuck is american so doesn't understand how to do dates.

The FAQ schedule is a good one to follow. I always went on time rather than mileage. Yes it can cost a bit more, but it's inconsequential in the long run.

Braided lines are a waste of money unless your originals are very old and you're going near a track. There's no difference in feel whatsoever, other than that related to purchase justification. I changed mine due to age and track use.

Lol, yeah not sure how March 13 could be different to March 2013, unless he thought I had it serviced on 13th of March, then the 14th March and the next day on the 15th lol. Just teasing Chuck!

Surprised by your comments on the braided lines, I've fitted them to a few cars previously and they improved the brake feel, minor in the grand scheme of things, but still noticeable. I do already have the Tegiwa master cylinder brace, which helped. Will do some research.

Yep! That's how it read peering thru the haze of my first cup of coffee. March '13 is readable on both sides of the ocean. Read dates? Today is 17 Apr 17. Dyngus Day here and another excuse to party!

Search for a user called Lower's comment on the brake lines - he explains it succinctly.

My own experience backs that up. The cylinder brace was useful for a track car, but I don't miss it on my 09 as it's a road car and braking is mostly un-necessary

Don't make excuses, just because you Yanks write the date inside out and back to front!

It's called English for a reason.
