Default starter motor issue

A while back, I had issues with the car simply not starting, you would press the start button and nothing. It hadn't happened for a while and now it's started happening again.

Funnily enough I don't know if coincidence, but I wiggled the gear stick and it started the other day as well as countless unlock/locks and turn on/off's, the car failed to start again today trying the above and wiggled the gear stick with no avail after a few more start attempts and another gear stick wiggle it started.

Any ideas?

I was thinking of whacking the starter motor if it happens again as it could be the brushes? Or a solenoid, where are they both located?

Seems the starter is akward to get to?

Cheers
