Default steering problem

anyone know what can cause this problem?

when the streering wheel is turned and then released it doesn't automatically centre itself like it should. it turns back a little bit but basically stays pointing the way it was turned.

Mine does this aswell, kinda got used to it and simply thought it was an S2K thing - would be keen to find out how to resolve it

yeah, whilst driving. impressive isn't it. i picked my car up tonight from the stealers where it had been having some work done to it after me having an unfortuante coming together with a kerb.

also the brakes don't feel right and i'm getting a clunky noise under braking and on occasional road bumps from the rear left. i'm taking it back to them tomorrow.

not very happy with the service. don't think they actually road tested the bloody thing!

Self centring of the steering comes from the castor effect. If the geo is out due to your bump then that might be the problem.
Other possibility is the Ps is on the blink but that would make the steering feel heavy as well.

You are right that a road test should hve picked this up.

Sounds like the castor's out to me, in the absence of any other strange feeling (i.e. variable weight/assistance) from the steering...
