Default Stereo problem? speakers clipping?

I have a problem with my stereo in my S, I think it's since I did the rear speaker upgrade possibly? But i tried to blame it on the honda tape headunit which now I have swapped this weekend (for an alpine CD unit)and the problem still persists.... Is there anything I can check that would be obvious? Or have any other owners experienced this? I noticed on rainy days when it doesnt work I can put my drivers window down then up again and the stereo starts working, suggesting some wires may be faulty in the drivers side door but how would that effect all 4 outputs?

presumably one speaker shorting could potentially affect all of the speakers i.e. the HU is being given a hard time. I would certainly get the door panels of and check the wiring (and waterproofing).

There's a good chance the HU has shut down because there is a short on the speaker leads. This will be designed to happen.

It would make the amp inside the headunit shut down (go in to protection).
