sticking calliper
in the last few days I have discovered a very hot wheel. Obvious first thought 'the notorious sticking calliper'. jacked the corner up to confirm that the brakes are partially on, on the hot corner. I have resourced a local garage, as I currently don't have the time to fix this and need the car, with total cost which includes 2 callipers, fluid and replacement pads = £321.06 all in which I thought was pretty reasonable. However, after the last 2 journeys I have left the hand brake off when parked and then after the journey no overheating wheel issues. I assume the handbrake uses the callipers so could this be sticking and the reason?
Sounds like the handbrake mechanism is sticky on the caliper, try leaving it overnight with the handbrake on as normal then in the morning release the handbrake and try pushing the car to check for a sticky brake on even jack it up and try the wheel by hand.?
Lots of wd40 or the like and operating the h/brake lever(the one on the caliper) by hand may help but a new caliper will probably be the answer.
