Default Straight line against a Fiat coop Turbo

I was expecting to get blown away, as I know the Fiat coupe's are very quick, but managed to stay with him all the way up to pretty decent speeds, where we both backed off, and was actually not pushing as hard as I could have or would have made very slight ground on him.

It was definitely a Turbo, as when he was alongside there was a loud dump valve between changes, but there is a 16v and a 20v, and I can only imagine its a 16vt, as id expect a 20vt would have gotten away from an S?

Good fun though, only thing was his car was spitting out a shower of crap, not sure what is was, but I could hear all these bits hitting my car, like he was on gravel in a RWD or something. I know a few turbo cars spit stuff out, but its going to mean I have to clean my very clean car again!!

Shouldn't have a problem with them I wouldn't have thought.

But it's fairly easy to squeeze a bit more power out of them with some simple mods, it was probably fairly equally matched.

Only ever had one play with one of these.
I was behind and just stuck behind him until about 100 (kph of course).
I had to work the S but by about 80 it became obvious to him that he wasn't going to lose me.
Fast cars and I would say only a little slower than the S in the situation you describe.
Modified is a different matter and will need a different thread title.

They're not as quick as I thought then, they have a bit of a rep for being very quick once moving, but then the S2000 is no slouch, nice to be able to keep up with a turbo performance car.

Thats the big bonus with turbo cars, the tuneability. Costs a lot to extract more out of the S.
The coop is FWD though, and I imagine with that power and torque, its running at the limits of its ability to put that down without too much torque steer, or messing up the handling completely.

Love VTEC thou, and althou I miss a turbo kick, I dont think ill be swopping back to a turbo anytime soon, and the fact Honda can produce an engine as tractable and powerful as the S2000's without resorting to a turbo is kinda cool, we can stay with cars with the same size engines that need a turbo strapped to them to make them competitive!!

True, I considered one about 2 years ago (well, it made shortlist of cars I might have looked at), but the looks and Fiat reputation put me off, never got as far as looking into them seriously, or trying one. Cant imagine repairs and maintenance on a Fiat 20 valve turbo engine are cheap, and if you have to mod it to beat NA cars with similar engine sizes, really doesnt seem worth the cost or bother.
