Thanks for the input so far guys.

Craig - I see your point but I can't afford to go down the speaker / HU all in one package at the moment and after testing one of my favourite CDs in MrV's car with a stock HU and improved speakers I could certainly hear the difference.

I will ultimately upgrade the HU but that will probably be after Christmas, I just want a bit more clarity from what I have and it seems to be a better improvement for

Kelk, I understand your reasoning, worth considering spending a further few quid (<

Unless you buy a 4 channel or more amp
Yes, but they cost twice as much and so out of Kelk's current budget. At least if he buys a two channel amp now, he can buy a second two channel amp if he decides to run rears at a later date. I would not bother though, from my own epxerience of running rear speakers and now amped fronts.

Sorry Craig,

Brain not engaged there and forgot about the budget.

I have a 2 channel amp kelk could buy cheap but the problem is, it's going to cost him nearly all of his budget to buy a wiring kit as I left that in my old car

Cheers guys, as you can probably tell I know about as much about stereos (car or home) as a frog knows about downhill olympic skiing.

Craig, Nick and Super cheers so far, especially for the beginners guide and my, what must seem like, base level knowledge questions. one thing I have found for myself is

Low cost car audio who seem to be under-cutting everyone else's prices.

I shall have a mooch around given what you have toled me and keep this one moving.....

any other recommendations are most appreciated and if the budget needs to increase slightly then I amy well justify that.
