I’ve got to the point where I consider thieves to be some sort of natural hazard.
I won’t leave my food on the patio table for a minute because I know the local birds will steal it, I won’t leave anything of value in my car because I know a thief will steal it.
Sure, I could shoot the birds with an air rifle, I could kick the crap out of the thief (or get him arrested) but another one will be along in 5 minutes.
And no matter how badly I mangled the first one the next one won’t care or be deterred.. in fact it’s just a little less competition for them.
I don’t actually blame the police for this. I blame the criminals.
I feel sorry for the girl who lost her presents, but leaving a car full of wrapped presents in an open carpark is as foolish as leaving your cheeseburger on a seawall while the gulls are circling.
I wish it wasn’t like this.
I quite often read a magistrates blog, it’s quite interesting to see what penalties are given out to these sorts of criminal and why the sentences can seem lenient.

Common Problem in this country I'm affraid only 10% of the countrys cameras provide images of evidential quality and their are 4.2million of the bloody things, too many cowboys installing them I'm afraid. There are strict guide lines for CCTV and the standards required to ID, or recognise someone using it.
Its amazing how speed cameras and mobile cameras are so effective. I wonder if only 10% of those work I remember 2 weeks ago a mobile camera at the end of my road, this is not a particularly busy road and was at 8pm in the evening trying to catch the odd person doing 34mph in a 30mph zone. 2 days later in the local press there was a reported burglary one street away around the same time the mobile camera was there. The usual response we get is there just isn't enough money to police everywhere all the time.
Oh, Hull plod once pulled over to let the perpetrators dive out of an alley!
But at least the fat bastards actually turned up.
Sadly, the authorities see the police as another division of HMRC and it's no wonder the populace is beginning to lump all divisions of authority in with crims/paedoes/etc as the enemy of the people.
Get a dog (German shepherd etc) and pay porters to look after it? - maybe a good idea if you can look after it and its brought up correctly. Also put a 'DOG' warning on the door - on 2nd thoughts dont .
I have 2 German Shepherd dogs, the first one in its earlier years could nearly knock me over on a charge and has pretty sharp teeth and an excellent vicous loud bark.
I remember once people trespassing through my garden, it was clever enough to make them scream/shout and run after them but stop after a short while.
