Default Thinking of buying an S2000

Good Afternoon All,

I hope you are all well?

My name is Dean & at present I live in Surrey, I have been thinking of buying a convertible for a while & really like the S2000 for a while now. At present I have a mini cooper s works which I really enjoy driving but would like a change. I think I'll have 8-9K to play with. I have wanted a convertible for a long time now & I'm seriously thinking of buying a S2000. I've done the normal thing of looking around different options like the Boxter, Z4, VX220 & YouTube videos but I think the S2000 would be the one I go for out of all of them

I do have a couple of questions about the car, if anyone can help me that would be great
What is the drive & ride like / handling?
How much is Car Tax?
How much is Servicing?
What is the Insurance group?
Fuel costs roughly?
Cost of tyres?
Any other costs I my have missed LOL?

I'm looking to buy over the summer this year I reckon. Any help I would much appreciate it

Enjoy your weekend

Dean

Hi Dean,

What is the drive & ride like / handling? Very nice, find a dealer and take one out!
How much is Car Tax? £265 for pre-06 and £505 post 2006
How much is Servicing? £140 Honda Main Dealer Service every 12 months for oil, filter checks
What is the Insurance group? 20E
Fuel costs roughly? around £55 for a full tank and this gets me around 220 miles not worrying about MPG
Cost of tyres? around £110 each
Any other costs I my have missed LOL? None - cheapest car I have ever had the pleasure of owning! Maybe the cost to go quicker as it's pretty much a supercharger or turbo to get any real gains in power.

1.) Drive is fine, I daily mine and it is good considering the road surfaces around me. Handling is good out of the box, it is always a good idea to have the car Geo'd. The backend does get a little unpredictable in the wet, and will snap around. I think this is more my driving style as some will argue the S is fine in the wet, I have always found mine to oversteer when going for it. In the dry it is fine.

2.) 6months = 150ish

3.) Done by Honda I would imagine £200 to £300 for minor and £300 to £500 for major (??) I do mine myself.

4.) Insurance group is around the 40s, look on Parkers.com for further information. I am 23 (just) and pay around £400 fully comp + business

5.) Stock I was getting 220 to 280 from a tank, depends how you drive. Costs around £50 to £60 to fill up.

6.) tyres = how long is a bit of string. Ideally you need a staggered setup 205 55 16 front and 255 50 16 rear (if prefacelift) Budget £100 to £150 per corner? Again I buy mine from a friend for mates rates so I can't comment too much. I can however comment that my tyres last around 1 year with daily driving. I run Toyo TR1s.

7.) Make sure that any S you buy has had the Geo checked and it has no seized bushes, if it has seized bushes and the Geo is out expect to pay ££ to get it sorted.

8.) Make sure it isn't rusty. Make sure the roof is in good nick and doesn't leak. Get a glass rear screen and not a plastic. Drivers seats will nearly always be worn down. These things can drink oil, almost on par with a rotary. Oil change every 3k is best. Once you drive an S nothing else will compare in comparison.

Hope this is of some assistance.

Mike

Is that not a bit extreme, most people suggest 5k if you're keen. Better still, if it's a pre-facelift it drinks approx. 1ml per mile travelled (in my experience) so if you're doing 1000 miles a month it's taking on around 1 ltr of fresh oil every month.

So in theory you never need to "change" the oil just the filter.

I get roughly 312 miles before the pump light comes on with at least 30 miles still in the tank.

Around 30mpg of pure commuting, oh it drinks SUL.
