Mine went for MOT a couple of weeks ago, passed with no problems at all - just hit 90k on an 04 plate.

Did you go to a main-dealer for an MOT?
Calipers are £300+ each.
I did consider refurbs or other makes but I wanted new Honda ones.

Wowza. Quite a few pennies on Calipers! If you do lots of miles though, it'll be worth it.

They pulled your pants down with those callipers! Just got a pair of recon ones for a shade over 100 nuggets! 2 year warranty and all

I really do not see whats wrong with re-manufactured ones , the plating is far better for a start so less corrosion on the body.

The OEM calipers are not made by Honda in any case , they are Nissin bought in and sold on to you at vastly inflated prices!

Yep

Either you refurb your OEM calipers yourself or you buy reman / blueprint ones which are half the price of Hondas new ones and no less likely to fail.

And then there's no telling whether they fitted new ones or refurbed ones either

Why on earth would you suggest that?

I imagine Minvo was well aware he could get refurbs if he wanted - he's been here long enough after all.

If he decided he was happy to pay the extra for them, then that's up to him.

Minvo, make sure you give the new callipers annual maintenance (a bit of a clean and a lube up of the rubber bits) and they should last you pretty much forever.

Thanks Lovegroova for the vote of cofidence!

Once again a thread I put up for people to say "ouch man - feel your pain" has turned into a kill the OP thread.

I did spent a whole evening looking at threads on here (using the search) for previous owners having the same decision.
I could of got the calipers refurbed for £30 but my friend who does the servicing on my car didn't think they would be any good being refurbed.

In the end I think I made the right choice. Money is NOT important when it comes to brakes and tyres.

Lovegroova - feel free to lock the thread so it dies quietly.
