They're frighteningly quick with 300bhp and 300ft lbs + torque

I don't know what the kits have as I was only ever interested in a stock VXR220, but they've gone silly money now and barely ever come up for sale.

I put the VX220 in the same league as the Lotus Elise. If you think about it the cars of that era the Lotus was powered by a Rover 143bhp VVC engine or maybe the 160 version. They didnt have alot of power but were very quick. The VX220 then came on the scene with a turbocharged engine and was a seriously quick car back in the day.
On track in a S2000 you have no right to keep up with one really so good effort Rob!
I do find sometimes on track that judging cars is pretty difficult because when they come storming up behind you you cant see what tyres they are running. A car on full on slicks will always be quick in the corners.
Driver skill/confidence plays a big part as well. I overtook a Nissan GTR last week but it was being driven like an old man in the corners but then again if i was driving a £50000 car i would tread carefully for a few laps..
You got any footage Rob?

GM would not allow the better engine in the Elise,
because it would have been better than the VX220

-VXR/Z20LEH Turbo, air flow meter and injectors which could be had for under £600
-3" exhaust however these are expensive as last I heard there was only one company who did them and put a Patent on it!
-upgraded Charge cooler.
Don't have to get an ECU as theyre so capable and adaptable!
Glory with them is 90% of Astra Turbo bits fit, even the gearbox will fit so picking an LSD will be a doddle too.
Cracking cars! But not daily material IMO

From Wikipedia:
Going by that they were built at Lotus, I didn't know there was a Daewoo version too though! Edit -Oh there wasn't really, just one for marketing purposes.
Very interesting!
The Opel Speedster is a United Kingdom-built mid-engined, targa-topped, 2-seater sports car from the German automaker Opel, introduced in July 2000.
It was built in both RHD & LHD versions, at the Lotus Cars plant in Hethel, Norfolk, England. It was sold as the Vauxhall VX220 in the United Kingdom, as the Opel Speedster in the rest of Europe & Daewoo Speedster in the Asian market.
The car shared much in common with the Lotus Elise, yet Opel claimed few parts were interchangeable. Both cars are characterised by strong performance, and sharp handling.

Due to the changes in European crash safety regulations for the 2000 model year, Lotus needed to replace the original Elise, and they struck a deal with General Motors in order to have sufficient investment for a new car. As part of the deal, Lotus agreed to develop and produce the Opel Speedster and Vauxhall VX220 on the new Series 2 Elise chassis. The first Speedster concept car was shown at the Geneva Motor Show in 1999. Whilst the new Elise would use a 1.8-litre Toyota engine, similar to that found in the Toyota Celica, the Speedster was designed to use a 2.2-litre GM Ecotec engine from the Opel Astra. Neither engine had been used in the original Elise, which was fitted with a 1.8-litre Rover K-Series engine. In order to accommodate the production of the new cars, Lotus expanded its Hethel factory to a capacity of 10,000 cars, with around 3,500 slots allocated to Speedster production. Production of the Speedster commenced in 2000.
The Speedster utilizes an aluminium chassis tub that weighs only 72 kg. The car also features bodywork made entirely of glass-reinforced plastic (GRP). The entire car weighs only 875 kg

I'm sure my mate spent a hell of a lot more than that it was circa 270 and he spent around 3 to 4k - that's turbo kit territory for the S.

Turbo £349
Injectors and rail £100
AFM £90-£100
Thats the bulk of the parts
The charge cooler can be hand second hand for about £800
Exhaust doesn't necessarily need to be 3" to make 300bhp.
I am assuming your mate bought brand new bits because that's shite power for the money.
Fact of the matter is the Z20LET is a far more torquier motor out of the box. Power comes on song at about 2.2K RPM and off you go. Plenty of my friends have had them. Most of them running in excess of 300bhp
