I wouldn't even try anymore. I'd be toast.

The good news is that there is now a glut of cheap GT3s on the market.

Their owners are all trading up to diesel for the performance.

From the lights I think the S2000 is a little poor due to having to wait for VTEC. Most 200bhp+ 4WD cars will have the S to 30 mph without many problems if they nail it. There is no way that any stock S2000 would beat an equally driven S3 to from the lights, purely due to the max torque in the S3 being from 2000rpm and the 4WD.

To really have a good chance against an Impreza it would have to be dry and you would have to drop the clutch from 5k-6k rpm and how many of us are willing to do that? I'm not!

The closest race I have had was against my gf in her S3 and it took some very fast gear changes and from 2nd to 3rd gear and I had her, but she does not really cane it. Really good fun though

For the closet traffic light racers you can't beat Santa Pod for a laugh, I have not been for over a year and miss it! Its good to watch crazy fast Renault 5 GT turbo's get sub 13 sec 1/4 miles, Fiat Coupe Turbo's destroying their clutches and novices in their M3's doing crap times

You lot have obviously never been up against a Cupra diesel
fear the derv monster

seriously though, bit silly to race off the lights unless you are in the wrong lane and need to get infront so you can cut in. most of the time you're better off in the knowlege that you don't have to try but can still pull away in a normal manner and easily be past the vans etc. If someone wants to race upto 60+ in a 30 limit you're better off letting them go rather than have them right up your tail the rest of the way. No point proving how fast you can go in a 30limit, the tw4t in the modded nova will probably go into three figures to prove that his rust bucket can beat you, just let them go and then burn them up on a real road.

the biggest problem with winning these little duels is the aftermath.

Nine times out of ten it results in tailgating.

I normally find that the next roundabout or corner normally teaches them that tailgating is not a good idea.

That the car is capable of sticking to the urben speed limit round corners shocks the numpties.

One can see the understeer and terror in the mirrors!

That is good fun, I had someone tailgating me in a 206 late one night last week and rather than VTECing him I simply didn't slow down for any corners, he was several hundred metres away after a couple of 30 mphers

but 4wd cars have to slip their clutch to get a proper good takeoff whereas you can hammer your S to wheelspin a bit which helps.. it is hard to get a really good takeoff cos the back tyres are better than the poxy clutch but the S will beat a hell of a lot off the lights.

i agree with crusoe though as well, these fools in novas who are happy to do a ton past a kids school are just queuing up to die, best left to it.
