Default U380 code reader

Bought one and just tried it but I get a linking error

My S2000 is a 2006, have I got the wrong reader?

it's likely the ecu is denying access, Unlock the car first and have keys in set to when dash lights up.

Let me know how it goes

no, whatever I try I get the same linking error?

the Connector doesn't fit very well in the socket (I am using the right socket!) it doesn't push all the way in, and so pops out/loses power if you knock the cable - not sure if that's normal?

I have the U480 code reader haven't tried it yet, it is still in the box. You can borrow it if you pay postage.

If you've ever removed the little padded bit next to the stereo it might not be re-seated properly and will be pushing against the reader connector thing..

give the padded thing a wack to re-seat it...

I used to get this with my U480 and it was because it wasn't making a good contact, I had to press the connector in quite hard whilst taking a reading to kinda force the connection

what year is your S2000 ?

I've tried the code reader on a couple of Ford's and it works fine, tried it on a friends S2000 (his is 2006 too) and exactly the same as mine the plug doesn't connect into the socket correctly, enough to get power but you have to physically hold it in place and same linking error.
