Another hand raised here for daily driver. I dare so there are more financially astute options out there, but then if saving money was the sole motivator, no one would own a car with anything other than economy at its core.
Whilst its easy to come up some numbers to describe the cost saving of running a different/second car, what is difficult is quantifying, in monetary terms, the added value of driving a car you enjoy driving.
As 'sports cars' go, the Honda is pretty reliable customer, and can, in my experience soak up the daily commute without immediately falling to bits and requiring monthly investment. Of course its a compromise, much of life is, but for me it strikes a very acceptable balance. Its not an Atom, it's not 0.9litr eco box, but it like driving it and for now I can afford to do so.

I also have a hard top which I think helps a great deal for making it a more attractive prospect for the wetter months.

Leasing sides pricey for a pos

£1.2k/yr for 2 years if i'm reading right

I'd find something old and shit with good mpg, it should depreciate less than that

I used mine as a daily but if she's a keeper and you're racking em i appreciate the dilemna

I daily drive mine on 16s, complete with winter tyres when required, but then I don't do high mileage.

A year ago, I drove from Hendon to East Croydon for an interview. It was blazing hot, I had the air con on full whack and I was crawling through traffic the whole the way. It took hours, and I emptied a full tank of Super Unleaded before I was home. So, at least £50 of gas for a 40 mile journey. That's less than 5mpg!

The mileage side of things doesnt bother me in the slightest after all cars are meant to be driven especially an S its just no real enjoyment in the commute to work, motorway miles, don't believe that's particularly exciting in any car. Wear and tear also happens to all cars so not concerned there.

Would however much rather just have a POS to get back and fourth to work then it would make driving the S more of an occasion. That and the fact that the £250+ a month on petrol is becoming harder to swallow surely I could better than half that with a run around.

This is my point, as purely a mode of transport what is the point in using the S. Regardless of whether etc. If covering reasonable miles or driving at peak hours, like myself there is very little enjoyment to get from this car.

This is the main reason for the thread wanted to understand what the best options are. Just to be clear 100% sure I dont want to get rid of it just want to use it less i.e. not for work and try to save a bit money.

See I'm thinking of binning off any sort of MPG and getting a V8 barge like an A8 or similar. I'd rather pay a bit more in fuel and not hate myself everytime I get in the car

butttt, its more off a roll-of-the-dice when it comes to getting a good one that wont throw up some expensive bill etc.. That said, if you start off with a reasonable one with Tax and Test, then it shouldn't lose too much of its value over the winter..

Would you consider getting a motorcycle? It will save you time and money for commuting. Even sportsbikes get unbelievably good mpg compared with cars.

Good suggestion Nico unfortunately I dont even have my CBT. Even a little scooter would be super economy. Was something I was always going to look into anyway but never got round to it.

I got rid of my "beater" to get another S2000 recently. I had a 2001 Civic Coupe which I paid £475 for from a scrap yard! All it needed was a rear caliper and a set of pads for the MOT. I wanted to stick with Honda. The Civics with the 1.7 Vtec are reasonable on mpg too.

The S2000 is my daily driver. If and when the weather turns, I might well bring my Impreza Type R out of hiding and lay up the S for the winter! Especially as my roof has the dreaded roof seal leak!

Using mine as a daily doing circa 40 miles a day. Novelty not worn off yet as only recently bought it, but I can see the 300 mile (when driving sensibly) tank beginning to get expensive. I suppose at the moment I do go off for random drives to places as it is enjoyable.

I find driving through the city quite a frustrating experience though, however appreciate that isn't what the car is for.

Roads also a bit sh!t around here.

Craig

Edit - Also, I might add something a chap at work said to me. It is surely better to do 40 miles a day that you enjoy, rather than slugging along that route in something crap.
