Default Valid Excuse?

while setting my trip to zero while on the move I indavertanly switched from mph to kph

question is if you get stopped might this be a good excuse as to why you were over the limit being that you had no mph readout?

Nope!

Cos if you were doing 60 in a 40 mph - the km/h readout would be 100! Does that make sense? Erm... I'm confused...

on the other hand if you were driving in main land europe it would be the other way round - in a 100kmp limit you would be driving at 100mph which is around 160kmp !!!!! .........................or something like that !!!!!

well I was thinking that saying you knew that it was reading kph and that it would overread but not by how much

surely it's got to be worth giving a go

I seriously suspect that this would just increase the likelyhood of a "due care and attention" as well. Not paying attention or not "realising I was going that fast" always seems to result in the patronising use of "so not only were you speeding but, you werent paying attention to the fact that you were speeding".

You cant win, ECM is the only way forward, fight technology with technology.

Speeding is a strict liability offence - all that Plod has to prove is that you were exceeding the limit. The reasons why you were doing so are irrelevant to the charge - the only way you could try to explain it away would be in the plea in mitigation, prior to sentencing. And I tend to agree with the views above - it's probably only likely to do you more harm at the end of the day!

It's seems what ever you say, that they 'WILL' use it against you, better to say nothing. Cheers Kev.

Lets face it - they want your cash and they couldn't really care less about anything else (IMHO) so its probably best to keep quiet.
