VX220
My son is thinking of swapping out his FRP for a VX220 and we went down to see one today. BASIC or what??? A very nice looking car with absolutely nothing inside, the radio was an extra, manual window winders, no aircon, no power steering, no ABS, no carpet, etc
It was a nightmare to get into with the roof on and then I sortof fell out rather than climbed out.
All that said, Nick said that the drive was excellent and the performance felt comparable to the S (yes at just 19 he has driven the S )
Any of you driven or looked at one? Views please. This would be an everyday car.

Lotus build quality backed up with Vauxhall dealer skills and attitudes. It would worry me
You should be able to pick up a nearly new one at a good price though, everyone wants the VX220Turbo nowadays.

Very basic as you say, and much along the lines of the Elise. Great handling no doubt. Only for the very hard core and committed as an everyday car - or the very young and daft.
It might prove to be a much regretted impulse purchase once the initial novelty wears off and we're now at the wrong end of the summer anyway?

If I didn't need the odd bit of luggage space I'd have a turbo version - amazing VFM, and not bad looking IMHO.
Mind you - if we get scared at boggo Honda mechanics working on our highly strung S's, imagine your average Vauxhall dealer trying to sort a handling issue

Humm..... if insurance allows the VX220 Turbo is great
Nice car, good on its limits, gives a bit of warning before it goes, has a bit of understeer for the FWD converts. I put 30,000 on a Mk1 elise in a year, it was ok to drive everyday, cost less than the S does to run, tires lasted well. Its ok in the wet, as long as there is no standing water, it just didn't have the weight to push down, but it never did anything scary. Tried a VX220 Turbo and a standard one, turbo needed a bit more respect due to its power delivery, getting in and out is fine as the driver, not so good as the passenger, but heck who cares about them.
