What to do...
I agree to the bit about getting a car that she wants! I think it works, at least to me.
I initially agreed to buy her a Smart car, and I will get the S. Now I've got my S, she's yet to receive her car.
It's not as bad as it sounds, because it turns out she wants to concentrate on her studies at uni so don't need a car at the moment.
Good Luck!

Already started to prepare the groundwork. Only money I owe is remainder of car loan - easy to clear next year - and mortgage (not too horrendous, and will be paid off by the time I retire). Pension is sorted out, plus I'm adding a bit more to bump up the company pension, and lump sums to come. A couple of savings plans - finances are sorted
She's going to give her job 6 months once it has been re-organised to see if it is worth staying. If she stays she will have to replace her car, so probably a good enough excuse for me to get the car I want, and if I say that she can use the beater when I'm away/driving the S (thus putting less miles on her car) - got to be a convincing arguement

Thanks for the words of support
Expected a lot worse TBH!
I've got 6 months to:
a) save up enough money to afford an S and beater (plenty of time away with overtime/allowances)
b) convince her that I won't use the S as chick magnet
Plus, it's my 40th birthday in July, so when she asks me what I want I can persuade her to put some money of her own towards it
Could I really get away with that one

IMO your best bet would be to settle for an ATR.
You've got jack shit of getting anything else!!

Personally I reckon you've got 2 hopes of getting another S2000 based on what you've said.

No, she will just have to like it or lump it
Buying a high mileage motorway car could be your best bet. It's worked out great for us. I use the S2000 for about 6 - 8k a year and one of our other cars for bad weather, commuting etc
Put it to her this way - I've lost about
