[QUOTE=Bassoctopus,Nov 18 2005, 10:45 AM] Buying a high mileage motorway car could be your best bet. It's worked out great for us. I use the S2000 for about 6 - 8k a year and one of our other cars for bad weather, commuting etc

Put it to her this way - I've lost about

Well you could do what I did and look for a minter from someone on here who's really looked after their car, and then love every single driving minute of it and realise it was the best car-buying decision you've ever made.

(Sorry Mike I just couldn't resist )

Cheers Jez.

How is the S behaving? Did you get the gear knob surround thingy sorted out?

Glad to see you are enjoying it as much as I did.

Mike, why not buy something different to the S but fun also? I can`t suggest anything atm - but there are cars out there, say TVRs, Lotus, etc?

That way you are not buying a car your missus, by her admission, hates.
She hates all 'sports' cars - noisy and uncomfortable. If I do get one, she would never be allowed in it. My left ear couldn't stand the increased noise!

Have been thinking of a trevor among other things. I've got a while to think about it.

We have Gill's car which she chose (a Mini Convertible);
My car which I chose (the S - which does not like driving, though she had a Z3 before the Mini - but likes being driven in)
and OUR car which WE chose and is practical (but hardly sensible) which is the low cost do anything beater - a three year old PT Cruiser.
Got the S and the PT for the cost of a Jag S-type which was my car before.

It's going very well indeed Mike, thanks. Not sorted the gear surround out yet but it's on the list. New spoon braces underneath have made a massive difference to the handling, much more predictable now.

Anyway, come on, get another S, you know you want to. Don't live in denial. Open up to yourself. Honda is your friend.

ok here the conversation you need to have

Darling I really would like a car for the summer, and really like driving with the top down, and need a car that is relaible, durable, and above all fun and fast.

So I was thinking of getting a secondhand x year old (insert age to meet cost) Boxster (wife flips at the fact its a Porsche expenesive etc. ), you admit servicing, tyres, insurance could be significantly expensive, you look all concerned, and say Well Ok if we have to compromise, the cheaper option will be, I ll have to get another S then! As it did win the topgear survey again as most relaible car etc, etc, and it is chaeper to run than a porsche coxster. and I might as well buy it now darling as it is a ragtop I could save a packet, as ragtops are always cheaper in the winter!

When jibes come about posing, etc, just look concerned express your deep interest in cutting edge Japanese/German engineering, and silly grin factor a ragtop provides witht e roof down in the midfdle of summer.

This should get you a long to to your goal!!

i darent ask why she hates all sports cars but i do agree with some of the comments about getting a car for her a car for you and a car to do the mileage/shopping/bad weather blah blah blah BUT that is three insurance you got to fork out so women being women you going to have to think how you get that one past her!!

and from a chicks point of view if part of the decision for you to sell the S in the first place was because your missus was changing jobs etc, then surely the basis of that decision doesnt now stand and therefore why cant you get an S back?

hit the guilt nerve and you sorted
