I have always known that 3 of my wheels were corroding and one was not.
I have just finished cleaning the car and I noticed something odd - the wheel that was not corroding was different from the others.
The front OS wheel has a smooth finish on the inside and the other 3 have a grooved finish (like the wheels on my CRV). The front, smooth finished, wheel looks as though it has also been lacquered on the inside.
Now, my car is a Euro import and I purchased it privately 6 months old so I do not know the exact history of the car and why one of the wheels is different. One of the downsides of purchasing privately I suppose.
You second shot is fairly typical of the corrosion, showing how it starts to appear on that inside edge! I wonder if it's had one of the wheels changed? What year is your car?
You might be able to find out through Honda if the wheel was replaced under warranty. If you know which dealer the previous owner used, ask them for the history of the car.
Do you mean that it is smooth between the spokes and the line where the stick on weights sit?
FWIW I have had all four wheels replaced and the left rear is smooth there, all the others are grooved.
If you just feel around the back of that spoke, past that corroded edge, the wheels are unfinished on the back, those grooves being, I reckon,... machining marks. The fact that Steven has one wheel which is smooth and finished on the back of the spokes (No doubt finished in fact, on the back of the whole wheel) lends credibility to what I read very early on after the car's release, that Honda were fitting a modified wheel after early complaints. There clearly are, or at least have been, alternatives to the crap original wheels people are getting as warranty replacements. I wonder if Honda just have a huge stock of the crap ones they have to get rid of!
I'm sure you're dead right. This is something I intend to do rather than have the hassle of replacing the wheels and starting the corrosion process over again. The wheels might be free, but it' hardly worth the hassle!
Had my wheels replaced. The new wheels seem to have a better finish on the inside than my last set, but they are still grooved although the edges are not as rough. I'll try to post pics of my new wheels tomorrow.
Cedric, it was no hassle at all. Just had the inconvenience of driving a Saxo for a day
