Default Wheel painting advice needed

So I've got a week off soon and would like to spend some of it tidying the car. I want to go darker grey with the wheels and am reluctant to powder coat them for 2 reasons; firstly the scare stories about weakening effects and, most importantly, I can't find the colour I want in anything other than paint form.

So...

Assuming my prep is good and I've laid on my chosen paint, what lacquer should I use to really armour it up and give it the best chance of resisting stone chips and brake dust burn? I'm assuming heat will not be that much of an issue but I've also heard of some lacquers yellowing with time. Obviously this is something I'd like to avoid.

Anyone got any ideas on how best to approach this?

The Tyres will be remaining in place throughout.

Powder coat them!
My C30 wheels were painted, the finish is inconsistent, they scuff easily and the paint lifts due to the thermal cycling & tyre fitters
My old CE28's (now with Ninebolts) were powdercoated they were used hard on A & B roads, did track days and still came up immaculate
My Aston has also had the wheels powder coated and they also still come up perfectly evey time.
I'm going to get the C30's wheel powder coated

Lacquer and paint is never going to be as tough as a heat set polymer

I agree with Mikey.

Trust me I've been down this route, even with good paint it wont last too long without showing chips etc esp in winter months with debris.

If you REALLY want to do it, then allow lots of time between coats, use lots of coat and get some good lacquer.

Thanks chaps, but I'm after a specific colour that I can't get in powder coat.

I'll also have a winter set too so the really nasty weather won't touch them.

I will be laying a lot of coats down but Irv has hit upon the rub...

What lacquer would be best suited to this?
