Back on to this after kerbing my rear N/S wheel tonight (my bet one!) Does anyone hhave any further suggestions to those above and should I try to keep the OEM finish or just get them powder coated?

Powdercoating is far more durable .... both in terms of corrosion and stone chipping - also seems to withstand brake dust better too.

I bought 17s off ebay and took them straight to Pristine in MK to be refurbed and powercoated black, and had them fit new tyres too. Then I sold my old 16s. Probably not the cheapest option.
There are people who come out and do a 1 hour service in the back of a van, but ask yourself if they can really be providing the same level of quality and durability in an hour as somebody like Pristine who take 2 days.

Been through this dilemma myself this week.. Originally wantedto keep original diamond cut finish but having spoken to a few guys in the know I opted for powder coat. Problem seems to be that laquer used to coat the bare metal after the cut process has no real adhesion component to it so one chip and the water creeps in and ur back to square one! For that reason I've opted for powdercoat in a bright silver and the guy reckons he may be able to powder coat the centre caps too as they have a thin alloy veneer on them. On hols at the moment but looking forward to seeing the results when I'm home in a week.

Centre caps: if they are corroded which they most likely are just peel the aluminium cover off leaving you with unmarked plastic. Get a bit of wet and dry to smooth them and ask the paint shop to paint them. That's what I recently did and it worked a treat!
