sorry if this has been discussed a million times , i have read some threads on here but still unsure.

i have a 1999 s2 with 16 inch wheels if i want to go to 17 inch do i have to buy wider rears than fronts like my 16's are ??

You don't have to. But see the FAQ which contains the OEM wheel and tyre sizes for both 16" and 17" wheels.

you don't have too, there has been lots of discussion about what the benifits are...if any.

i have the same size all round and have found no problems, i do have wider rear tires though.


i wouldn't go thinner than standard though.
