Default Whining Noise!

HI all i have a whining noise and this time not from the misses! My 02 S2000 between 45 and 70mph gives off a whining noise mainly heard when the roof is up of course.
It is not overly loud and does sound like prop or something in gearbox. I have just had a recent diff fluid and gearbox fluid change and this did not cure it.
Also notice when the clutch is released on idle there is a bearing noise but when pressed it goes away.

Any thoughts?

Bearing noise with the clutch released is normal, its the clutch release bearing and they all do that. The whining noise sounds a bit more serious though, either the diff is on it's way out or maybe a bearing in the gearbox. Get it along to a specialist for diagnosis.

I had a whining noise on MY00 S2000 at the same speeds as yours and thought that was coming from the transmission or diff. I took it to a local specialist and it turned out to be a wheel bearing, which has now been changed and all is good.

Have you used the right diff oil? My friendly local Honda dealer didn't and my diff was wrecked in just a few miles

of course, they denied it!

The garage did use the correct oil as they were shocked as the costs of the it.

I was hoping it would be a wheel bearing and nothing major on the drieve train.

Will strip down the rears in the week and take a look.

Anyone recommend a specialist that i could take it too in or around the Northamptonshire area?

Could be gearbox secondary shaft bearings. They run a little dry on the S2000s and start to whine. As it gets worse it will sound like a rubbing brake. You will notic it next to concrete motorway barriers
