Noise coming from back end..
I'm getting some diff whine.. but I started getting a "vibrating noise" from the back end of my car.. the "Vibrating noise" goes with the speed of the car so if I'm going 60 and put it in neutral the noise is still there and the noise is faster the if I go faster.... can't figure out what it is.. Had it looked at two places and its not the brakes and they don't think it's the wheel bearing either.. any ideas? One mechanic said it could be something to do with the diff. but he can't figure it out.
Had similar noise was whining, when it rained it was even worse, changed my bearing diff, drive-shaft etc, nothing fixed it, then later i found what it was my axle rubbing against wheel hub.
Hope this helps. and hope its not your diff

turning by hand wont work, lifting rear (using jackstands) level ground, set cruse control at highway speeds and with stethescope you can pinpoint whether its inner or outer pinion bearing, or carrier bearings, or axle bearings. like i said if its that bad there will be metal in fluid which can possibly damage the races of the other bearings aforementioned. sometimes the best option depending on diagnosis and love is to replace all bearings while closely inspecting the ring and pinion. the clutches need to be cleaned as well.

I think my tires had uneven wear on them.. I had a similar noise come from my prelude a couple years ago and I changed all the bushings with no luck and they sound went away when I got new tires... maybe it's the tires.. it certainly sounds like tires at least.. Getting my diff fluid changed.. will look for shavings.. my friend told me to get an alignment and balance the tires.. :/
Edit: Les schwab said it was a wheel bearing...
