Hi all

I have an understanding of the difference between superchargers and turbos but not why one would choose one over the other, except s/c use engine power and are heavier.

Why do you guys seem to exclusively s/c and not turbo?

It's easier.

The SC kits fit onto a RHD car no worries.

At the moment, Turbo RHD kits are very custom. Mase is currently working on a kit to solve this though.

Turbo's are usually complex installs and harder to tune.

SC kits are a doddle to install, and usually come with a few electric boxes to get you up and running on a stock ECU.

Also, I wanted to keep the cars dynamics stock like, so progressive boost was nice. I'd also not owned a SC'ed car before.

The Greddy kit will fit RHD cars but is so new that it hasn't really had a chance to get over here yet.

The problem is that on a RHD the steering colum runs through the area where the turbo manifold goes.

SC i believe is more reliable. Less risk to blow up your engine.

I suggest you read the various books on the subject for a more scientific explanation.

The main reason Superchargers are preferable is that they can be geared to provide boost from a lower speed and more usefully help fill out the area under the F20c's torque curve. Dependent on the installation, they should produce a more linear throttle response and less lag. Or they would be if there were a Roots-style paddle blower available. Except they're noisy, bulky & a tad inefficient.

They are also a simpler and more reliable installation and set-up, but that doesn't mean straightforward!

There are some new ones that ought to combine the advantages of both turbo & S/C, but it depends on the installation.
