just checked oil, washer fluid etc, and noticed the passenger wiper pivot was standing in water, the drain hole was blocked with winter rubbish. Clearly not ideal for the pivot to be soaking wet for any length of time. Might be worth checking next time you're under the bonnet. In fact u dont need to have bonnet open you can see with it closed.
