Same issue with me. I think it's just a water trap.

Let me know how you get on with welding in the donor metal.

Will do. It looks like it was jacket up there on my passenger side, it's dented a little.

There's a decent one on my industrial estate, often see them working on various Porsches so they can't be too bad. Quoted me £500 to replace both lower sections and the rust over the rear passenger side arch.

They were able to source replacement sections from America, basically the bit below the crease in my picture for £40 each plus shipping & import duties. Once I can get the rest of the cash together I'll post up some pictures of the work. BTW, opted for the second hand metal as can get a larger section, I've got some concerns that the rust could be above the crease which makes the panel useless. Plus I can sort the rest of the arch too.

Just a quick tip buddy,
Check if your soft top drain valves are in place.
If not, water will be re-directed to the door sills therefore rusting them from the inside out.
If you do replace that lower portion of the sills/rear 1/4 panel, might as well make sure that it won't happen again anytime soon!

ask your body shop to rustproof / underseal the area while they are at it

and get your arch strips off and and rust proof your inner arches as good as possible
