Default 2008 in the UMW

As 2007 rapidly comes to a close, and the enthusiastic driving season ends, I want to take a moment and reflect back on this year. I am wondering if anyone has constructive suggestions on how to strengthen the UMW community.

Are there any events that you would like to see more of in 2008?

Is there anything you would like to see done differently?

Is there anything missing from the UMW?

In general, what's working, what's not working yet?

What's possible or what's missing?

I want to make 2008 a GREAT year to own an S2000 in the UMW, help me understand what we need to do as a community to make that happen!

Granted, I came fairly late in the game, but maybe organize some local drives? I know there are some pretty nice roads to drive on in the UMW, so they would only be more fun to drive with a group of s2k'ers. Also, a movie night would be pretty cool, but it'd probably be more local. Basically, if some of the Chicago owners wanted to meet up at some theater and go watch a new movie, then maybe hang out and get a bite to eat afterwards, that might be fun. Again, I don't know what all was organized for this year, so this is just what I think would be fun.

More meets as a group. I've driven to Chicago and Wisconsin just to hang out and see people again several times, yet it seems that no one else (from afar) does. I've heard in the past people bitching about gas prices, but that is cop-out, if you can't afford $30 in gas for a meet you've got issues (IMO).
Weekend outings would be a must for me, but I am always willing to drive 200+ plus miles just to hang out for a day with everyone.

Is there a better way to communicate the event calendar. I never log on at the right time, its always like 3 days after a meet, so I miss it, and subsequently you miss me.

I am a member of other online forums and what i see that works is consistency. Before... i remember that there was weekly meets every thursday... SURE not every one can go but thats the beauty of it.. If u miss one week its ok next week we will meet too.! ITS UNDERSTOOD!!! every thursday or whatever day.. I myself am willing to commit to that. I also agree on drives whatever happen to those. The FWT's had them and we all remember them. But i think we have gone away from that and only meeting then leaving right afterwards. Whatever happen to then going to gameworks. Or people offering hey lets go back to my place for some drinks. Thats the kinda of things we need to start doing again. I could care less about how not clean the s is or if its OUT for the month. Whatever happen to friends first THEN CARS!!! I personally go to the meets to meet people and new people. We should get more events tooo! Like do something through honda at the dealership.. Sponsered drive like at the track. I hear about all this that used to happen i never got a chance to be part of that..

I've always said and believed that the success of the past was because of the mentality being "S2000's first, and then friends".

The reason being is that the car brought together so many different types of people with at least one commonality...the S2000. Alot of us did make really good friends with others...however, when half the group move onto other cars and new owners come into the group, that common denominator for current owners is lost.

In anycase, I do think more meets and weekend events would/could energize the group to get back to what we had a couple of Summers ago.

The other thing that would get more owners to come to meets would be strippers. We need to get some female strippers to meets....watch every Thursday night grow to 50+ S2000's.

I've been an owner for 2 years now. 2007 was the first year that I actually came out of the shadows and attended a couple of meets. I hope to be able to make it to even more meets in 2008.

For 2008 I'd be interested in group drives and tech days more so than just going out for dinner. There are LOTS of nice country roads on the west side of Madison. If you guys are interested, I could organize a Saturday afternoon drive, and afterwards everyone could come back to my place.

OK
I'll have more meets at my house, you know I love to entertain.

I'll get some together for winter too. Everyone can bring there sleds up, (snowmobile's that is).

Actually I need a tech day on my two sleds already.

I will do my part, and its a great in-between for Wis and Ill peoples.
