I want to thank everyone that has replied so far. This is good information, and it will help us to ALL make next year better.

I also want to mention that I am asking ALL of the UMW, not just the Chicago area and WI area folks. Is there anything we can do for the rest of the community?

If anyone isn't comfortable posting in this thread, please feel free to PM either Luder94 or myself.

I've been disappointed this year (2007) here in Detroit. We just couldn't seem to get it together.
We live in Grosse Pointe and just do not know any fun roads for the 'S' around here. It is all flat and well policed. I gave some thought to holding a BBQ but without a fun drive to offer I just let the summer slide by. Perhaps if we had had a couple of meets else where in the area I may have done a little more work towards a BBQ.
It seems that there are a lot of meets in the Chicago area, a five hour drive from here, and it just seems too far without more than a meeting in a bar being offered.
We drive all over the country for a fun drive and would love to meet some more UMW drivers but need more notice along with a tempting drive to get us to drive five hours or more to a meet. Thanks for taking this matter seriously ruewp67 we do need to get better organized.

I concur. Thanks (ruexp67) for the thought provoking post. I'll have to think about this some more; however, this side of the lake stays relatively quiet (comparatively speaking) and I'm not sure why. Tachus/et el, could it be that we need an 'organizer' to get better organized (i.e. Community Organizer)?

This is definitely something we can do this year.

I created a separate google calendar (so people don't have to see all the track events on the UMW calendar if they don't want to.) I have submitted the request to the powers that be on S2ki to embed the calendar into a sticky thread at the top.

For anyone that uses google calendars, this is REALLY cool as you can subscribe to it, and overlay the UMW and or the UMW Track event calendars on your personal calendars.

I have also discovered a neat feature which will make is far easier for me to keep the calendars up to date, so I should be better about keeping the UMW calendar up to date. Also J's Racing and Patinum have graciously volunteered to help keep the track calendar up to date.

More suggestions, ideas, comments, questions?

Michigan owners seem to be spread across the bottom half of the state, there was only one "meet" this year which was for the Woodward Dream Cruise which had a pretty good showing. We, as a group, need to find suitable venues for everyone in MI, it took me almost 4 hours to get to the Dream Cruise, and I would have a really hard time justifying that again.
I am all for more meets in MI, but we need to get more people showing up, 3 or 4 cars would be silly.

I am not so sure about that, Sam. I just finished updating the UWM owners list (which I was WAY behind on.) and there are a LOT of MI owners in the Detroit area.

We are also getting quite a bit of people from MN.

What would help strenthen the UMW in those areas? Do you guys feel like part of the UMW?

This thread has had quite a few views, far more views than posts. I encourage everyone to participate in this thread.

If you are new to S2ki, what are you looking to get out of your time here? Do you feel welcomed? How can we make you feel more welcome?

If you have been here a long time, but aren't posting or active, why not?

I am asking a lot of questions that are just coming into my head. The bottom line is, what is the UMW to YOU? What's missing, what could be better?

(again, I greatly appreciate all the feedback so far. I just want to make sure EVERYONE who wants to make a suggestion or a comment feels free to do so.)

My name is Mike and I am a gearhead. I have a farm in Middlebury, IN and would love to host some activities at our farm if you're interested?? I have a pretty nice toy barn and I would be willing to sponsor some tech sessions here. I have a private lake if we wanted to have a group picnic or outing. I would also be willing to travel to join events around Detroit. I haven't been to the Ford Museum in forever and would love to do that. Detroit has a great car show every year that would be fun. There is a large group of us from my area that takes two full buses to the Chicago Car show every year and make a day of it.

The Tire Rack is a little west of me off of the 80/90 toll road. Literally every day of every weekend, in season, there is an autocross sponsored in their racing area. It's a great track and easy to get to. Gingerman raceway is owned by a friend of mine and they have open track nights throughout the Summer for $ 50.00. It's a great time at either event.

Lots of stuff to do in Chitown as well. Good food, museums, more good food. Did I mention really good food?? How can you go wrong??

By the way, the toad that was going to buy my farm has backed out and I will not be leaving for Nashville, TN as soon as I had hoped. May I hang out here with you guys and attend some of your events?? May I also have one of the UMW badges as well, I own property in both states.

Thanks,

Mike
